What We Are Thankful For!

Bonsai Media Group Thanksgiving Seattle WA

In 1621, the colonists and their native American neighbors shared an Autumn feast that history acknowledges as the first Thanksgiving feast. In 1863, President Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November. Today it’s often synonymous with friends, family, and of course, a big meal involving turkey, mash potatoes, cranberry sauce and some pumpkin pie. Thanksgiving can mean different things to people. It can be a time to reflect on the good fortune of the past year, to be thankful for friends and family, or just to enjoy the company of others while you eat yourself into a food coma!

Here at Bonsai Media, we like to take this time of year and express our gratitude for the things we cherish in our lives. Our company was formed six years ago, and in that time, so much has happened. We’ve grown tremendously as an organization and as individuals. Each one of us has a lot to be grateful for, inside our industry and in our personal lives. Some of the team has come together to share personally what each one of us is thankful for this Thanksgiving.

This Thanksgiving, I’m especially thankful for my team. Each team member here at Bonsai is a specialist, whether it be design, front-end development, back-end development, SEO, or Social Media. They each have their unique perspective on the world, and when solving our clients' problems, it can be tough to collaborate and let the best idea win as opposed to your idea. I’m so proud of how the team has banded together to create the great core that is Bonsai. I’m thankful to have these fantastic people in my life and my business. Without each one of them, well, Bonsai just wouldn’t be Bonsai.

My thanks to angular. With it I can plop in a single custom dom element and angular replaces it with the widget associated with that name. Makes adding partials with javascript a breeze. SASS is also lovely. What developer wouldn’t love updating a single variable to change a color instead of tracking down the 20 selectors that use that color? And mixins are essentially functions within sass, so you can create the 10 button variations without having to write the same styles over and over.

This brings me to gulp, which allows me to automatically compile sass within visual studio thanks to the task runner explorer. Beyond that, it also lets me:

  1. combine files
  2. minify files
  3. rename files
  4. automatically add required vendor prefixes to css

It’s also easy to add to projects since visual studio now uses package.json to add components with npm. Happy times.

I'm thankful for my teammates; they're awesome! I couldn't do what I do without them.

I'm a front-end designer, so, by nature, I'm thankful for SASS.  I'm also very grateful for the launch of Foundation 6. It's a platform that makes my job much easier and helps the websites we create function at peak performance with optimal efficiency. This frees up some of my time focused on coding aspects to pay more attention to other things, such as your incredible looking site design. I'm also grateful for font icons; as a designer, they bring me an enormous amount of joy. Lastly... Hot chocolate!

I have so much to be thankful for, especially my loving family.

It is also a blessing to work with such an amazing and supportive team.  Each day presents new challenges and, as a team, we work together to come up with the best possible solutions. I'm also thankful for our awesome clients! I learn and grow through every interaction and have a blast doing so. Lastly, I'm grateful for mash potatoes, turkey and stuffing, topped with gravy and a side of green bean casserole!  I think I can feel my waistline growing already... :)

At half-past eight the door opened, the policeman appeared, and, requesting them to follow him, led the way to an adjoining hall. It was evidently a court-room, and a crowd of Europeans and natives already occupied the rear of the apartment.
